Wheelchair lap quilts 2012 (42-95)

Nursing home small quilt project..

Once all the shelter quilts were completed we started work on Wheelchair Lap quilts.  Starting in the spring of 2012 we kitted somewhere between 80 and 100 quilt kits for volunteers to piece and quilt.  We began distributing them to nursing homes in the fall and winter, and were very well received.    Pictured below are the first batch of quilts we distributed, most are from the kitted fabric, and a few were made and donated by volunteers.

The photos below are just the beginning of the quilts our volunteers are creating,

You'll notice a variety of patterns, we get bored if they're all the same!!!!  All patterns are simple, no triangles, and no partial seams. We chose the simple patterns so anyone can join us to sew, even beginner quilters.  And, we tried to use the donated fabric as efficiently as possible.

All completed quilts are approximately 40"x40", small enough to stay on the lap of the recipient and not get dragged under the wheels, but still large enough to give them warmth.
